Abbott doesn't think he can see the future, but he did know that the Netscape browser was going to change how this game was played forever.

  • Why Microsoft Cambridge?
I guess I was drawn to the Cambridge campus for a couple of reasons. Certainly the people and the projects going on here are really interesting. But it feels like a very different campus. It's a little bit of Microsoft and your surrounded by all of these other cool projects going on, whether its bio-tech or hi-tech or MIT across the street.
  • What is your favorite feature of the new campus?
My favorite feature about Microsoft Cambridge or the Cambridge campus would be, I like to run; the run along the river is just fantastic. Even in the wintertime it's a great spot to run. It's pretty flat and there's always people out there at all times of the day or night out running. The access to that is phenomenal.
  • What's the greatest invention in the last fifty years?
I remember clearly seeing this article in the New York Times, it was talking about the Netscape browser and I remember showing it to my boss and thinking "This is going to change the way we all work." He kind of scoffed at it, he thought that we already had all those tools, it was nothing that new. But it felt really different; it felt really game changing to me. And I think it turned out to be that.
  • What is your favorite TV show theme song?
I think that my favorite show that I am watching now is "30 Rock" which has an interesting soundtrack. I'm not sure I know how it goes but, uh, something like "Bum Bum Bap bappida bump bump bap bappida bum bump... something like that."
