Agile UX, Yes We Can
Agile UX, Yes We Can

Event Details

  • Date: 3/30/10
  • Location: Microsoft New England R&D Center, One Memorial Drive, Cambridge, MA 02142
  • Time: 6–9pm
  • Audience: Usability Professionals' Association members, Boston Chapter
  • Description: As the popularity of agile development grows, user experience (ux) practitioners are being asked to adopt more agile practices into their workflow. This transition has been difficult for some ux practitioners as they struggle to find their place within established agile processes, leading towards confusion and negativity. A common belief, for example, is that agile does not provide enough time for user research. In fact, agile can provide more opportunities for gathering user feedback.

This presentation clearly defines the difference between agile principles and practices and the role of the ux practitioner within this process. Alla will provide a balanced and honest view of agile's benefits and drawbacks for ux design. In addition, she will touch on the misconceptions and proven techniques for working, designing and thriving in an agile environment.
  • Bio: Alla is a Senior Experience Designer at Mad*Pow. She specializes in creating holistic experiences that elegantly balance customer needs, business goals, and technical constraints. Alla has worked in completely agile environments for the past 2 years, creating designs that are iterative and always feasible to implement.

Alla recently gave a talk on agile UX at Agile East. She will also be presenting a poster on agile ux at this year's IA Summit, and is writing a book chapter on pair design (Addison-Wesley publisher). Prior to Mad*Pow, Alla worked across a number of industries, including in-house, agency and consulting.

Alla holds a BS from Rose-Hulman Institute of Technology, and an MS from Indiana University, with partial progress towards a PhD from UCLA. She strives to be a life-long student, as well as a mentor.
