* Foundation relations
* Database management
* Online giving and social media.
In addition to the seminars, each organization accepted to participate in the program is also paired with a mentor who is available as a resource between sessions. Mentors are volunteers who are seasoned fundraisers, members of Women in Development, and serve on The Institute's Steering Committee. Participation also includes extensive resources to supplement the material covered in each seminar and a one-year membership to Women in Development of Greater Boston.

Mass Innovation Nights

He left UT to go on the road doing work for Dell in a partnership with Microsoft doing architecture, design and implementation of Active Directory and Exchange. Today he leads a team of dynamic SharePoint Consultants for Sentri, a four-time Microsoft Partner of the Year. Keeping multiple copies of the same file, using backup tools like Time Machine, or even trusting to memory or handwritten notes. This can make tracking down a troublesome update to a file difficult at best, and impossible at worst.
Thankfully, there are a number of version control systems out there. Most notable today is one called Git, and it is a very lightweight, simple-to-use, and fast version control system, primarily aimed at text and text-like files, which makes it great for programmers, writers, and anyone who generates lots of text.
Developer and speaker Jeff Byrnes will introduce you to a number of core topics surrounding version control, and Git, as well as step through the most basic setup and commands for a Git repository.

Localytics: From an Idea to Billions of Data Points per Month

Andrew Rollins is chief software architect at Localytics, a mobile analytics company and one of the winningest small startups in the Boston area. In his presentation, he will share the trials and tribulations of growing an infrastructure that handles billions of data points a month and thousands of active clients every second.

Big Data Workshop

3/10/2012 | 9:00 am - 5:00 am | This training event is geared at helping local software developers, analysts from all industries, and scientists learn some of the tools of the trade for “Big Data”. From our evening events across the various meetup groups (Predictive Analytics, Hadoop, Data Visualization, Theoretical Computer Science, Cloud, MongoDB, R) we are seeing very strong interest in “Big Data” related topics. The event will have 4-5 workshop tracks covering programming, Hadoop, Python, and advanced mathematics, e.g. Bayesian, Machine Learning; as well as beginner tutorials. There will be morning and afternoon sessions in 2-3-hour blocks. An introductory talk will be given to provide an overview; though for the most part this will workshop oriented.

While this work has helped define what a UX Designer does and their value, it has also put designers in the deliverables business--measured & compensated for the quality of their deliverables (instead of the success of the experiences they design).
Lean UX is a methodology of marrying Agile and User Experience design in a way that can work in any size company and any development environment.

Rethink Presents: Hacker’s Weekend

4/24/2012 | 4:00 pm - 8:00 pm | The Institute for Nonprofits is an annual program designed to help nonprofits take their fundraising to the next level. The program consists of a series of six seminars with speakers who are development professionals. Some of the topics covered might include:
* Creating a fundraising plan
* Involving your board in fundraising
* Individual giving
* Donor relations
* Special events
* Foundation relations
* Database management
* Online giving and social media.
In addition to the seminars, each organization accepted to participate in the program is also paired with a mentor who is available as a resource between sessions. Mentors are volunteers who are seasoned fundraisers, members of Women in Development, and serve on The Institute's Steering Committee. Participation also includes extensive resources to supplement the material covered in each seminar and a one-year membership to Women in Development of Greater Boston.

Mass Innovation Nights

Information about new products is submitted through the website and every month joint new product launch party events are held locally. The events are promoted collectively and are free and open to the public. The social media community turns out and is urged to help spread the word about new local products. Meanwhile, the Innovation Nights website helps showcase new products to a global audience of eager early adopters.
Innovation Nights events are also great for connecting job seekers and recruiters, and local business experts with other members of the local innovation economy.
Innovation Nights is a platform for marketing, public relations and social media organizations that are interested in hosting their own new product launches and networking events in an effective and cost-efficient manner.

United Way Youth Venture celebration

6/7/2012 | 5:00 pm - 7:00 pm | The United Way Youth Venture Celebration is an inspirational event that showcases over 40 youth led social ventures that have been launched in the Boston area over the last 6 months. These ventures address everything from bullying in schools, gentrification in our neighborhoods, access to healthy food, students dropping out of school, etc. This event will highlight all of these ventures and congratulate them on the impact they’ve made on our communities. There will be an informal venture fair (science fair style) where each youth led social venture will have a table to display their work, a venture resource fair where these young social entrepreneurs can take advantage of tangible resources they can take away from the event, and a speaking program that recognizes everyone involved.
